RIFTS IV - VII

RIFTS: a series of lightboxes featuring attention heatmaps from predictive eye tracking. This work combines the practice of meditation and active looking with machine intelligence; exploring ideas of non-human perception and contemporary ways of seeing with technology.

RIFTS IV - VII documents a monolithic lightbox on the rocky shores of Ayrmer Cove, Devon. Installed as part of curatorial project A Place to Rest by Jean Watt, this installation was influenced by Cushing’s relationship with her friend’s Albin Vega sailing boat Karesta, on which she has been learning to sail since 2018. The lightbox was transported to site via Karesta.
